Snooze Button Beauty

As a primary school teacher, I am no stranger to early mornings and a general lack of sleep. However, there's something about this time of year that makes it particularly hard to drag myself out of bed when the unwelcome sound of my alarm clock fills my ears and disrupts my dreams. Consequently, I've found myself promising "just five more minutes," increasingly often...and increasingly often, I've been waking up half an hour later. Oops. With only 20 minutes to get ready, I've found certain products really help to get me looking presentable in minimum time, and thought I'd share them with you. After all, I doubt I'm the only one.

No matter how late I am running, there's one part of my routine I would never skip: cleansing my skin. I let the tap run whilst I brush my teeth so that it gets hot enough, then reach for my trusty Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish to freshen up my skin and wipe away last night's moisturiser. Then, to protect my skin from the cold air, I quickly smooth on a little Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm. I let it sink in whilst I plait my hair (messy plait = perfect rushed hairstyle), and it leaves me with a bright, evenness that means I don't need a primer.

I'm a foundation girl through and through, and these days I have been relying on Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish (shade 4.5 Warm Natural) to perfect my skin and stay put all day. Normally I'd be using my Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush for this, as it gives the best finish ever, but for some reason I find that Real Techniques' Buffing Brush does the job a smidge faster, so that's the one I reach for when time is of the essence. A quick swipe of Bobbi Brown Sheer Colour Cheek Tint in Sheer Pink, blended in quickly (and probably, lazily, with the same brush I just used for foundation) takes me about 30 seconds. Okay, 45.

If the car doesn't look like it needs de-icing, I'll allow myself an extra minute to pop a little colour on my lids. Maybelline's Colour Tattoos are ideal for this, as they don't require any hassle and you know they'll stay put all day even if you haven't exactly applied them with care or used primer. Pink Gold is my favourite shade. Mascara is a must for me, and as I've currently run out of my drugstore favourites (Max Factor False Lash Effect and Maybelline Colossal, FYI), and hate the replacement I bought (The Falsies), I've been using a sample of Bobbi Brown (who I swear I don't work for, despite seeming to crop up a lot in this post!) Everything Mascara. Like those faves, it gives me separated lashes and lots of volume in one coat (but if you haven't overslept, builds up beautifully for a more dramatic look). This sample has lasted me ages, by the way, and it has left me in a quandry about what to repurchase actually (despite having bought two new mascaras last weekend, which is a whole other story for another post).

Finally, a quick swipe of something easy and wearable on the lips. I've relied on Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me a lot lately, mainly because I can reapply at work without a mirror, and it does keep my lips feeling soft.

I realised whilst typing this up, that it sounds like an awful lot, but I can do all of this and get dressed and out of the door in the space of about twenty minutes, which is pretty good for me!

Have you been over-sleeping recently? What products speed up your morning routine?

    1. Hello! I think it's an end-of-term problem for me, I was the same in the last two weeks before Christmas! Thanks for the lovely comment, and I would highly recommend the foundation, it is, I think, my absolute favourite. It lasts all day but doesn't look heavy at all. x

  2. I love the Bobbi Brown full coverage face brush too, it's fantastic isn't it? I'm not sure if I have any real tips, I just don't apply as much makeup if I'm in a hurry because I don't have time! And I usually pull my hair back into a ponytail as it looks terrible unless it's freshly washed & dried.

    1. It's such a good brush, my absolute favourite! It was worth every penny, I can't imagine going back to traditional flat foundation brushes now. Bobbi brushes are generally really good though! x

  3. This sounds like me everyday, I always think that if I get a few minutes extra beauty sleep I'll need less concealer under my eyes. Maybe one day we'll be able to get up without hitting the snooze button!

    1. I love how it just doesn't crease or budge one bit once it is on - such a bargain as well! x
